17.01.2022 An astonishing 200,000 tonnes of waste wood pallets and crates are sent to landfills in Victorian and New South Wales alone each year! You should see what we have used Pallets for in our social enterprises, education workshops and Pop up spaces across Gippsland! https://businessrecycling.com.au/recycle/pallets-wood

16.01.2022 You can build anything from timber pallets. The disposal of unwanted empty pallets remains a significant challenge for some businesses as their back rooms, garbage bins or storage areas fill up with the empty or broken platforms. When it comes to finding a solution for your waste Pallet Club Gippsland is a stack above the rest. Contact us to find out more. www.palletclubgippsland.com.au

14.01.2022 Do you know how much food is wasted every year? Imagine you just pay for your grocery shopping for the week. You leave the store with 5 bags of food but before you but it in the car you throw 2 bag of it in the trash. Why you might ask? Its because Australian households throw away 40% of the food they purchase. Australian farmers need to produce 3 times the amount of food needed to survive because consumers throw it away. You may not think this is a massive deal because foo...d waste will just decompose, right? If the food waste decomposed in a garden it would emit carbon dioxide which is fine, but when the waste cant get oxygen because it is trap under tonnes & tonnes of waste it cant get the oxygen it needs. Instead of producing carbon dioxide, it produces methane. Methane is 28 times more powerful as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. Currently the methane from food waste adds to global warming by 1.5 degrees. Why dont we just produce less food then right? Sounds like an easy solution. But the reason Australian farmers are forced to produce 3 times the amount of food we need is so when you go to the supermarket, you get that perfectly round apple or that amazingly straight carrot. As a nation, we have been introduced to having everything perfect. Consumers expressly avoid unattractive produce nearly all the time (4.34 on a scale of 1 = not at all to 6 = all the time). Okay so we should produce a little extra food, no big deal, right? Think of it as like a domino effect. We throw away almost half of our food already, we then over produce our food. What comes next? The effect on the environment. All that land needs to be cleared, smashed with chemicals for irrigation to then grow food again with no time to rest and naturally gain its nurturance back. What will reducing food waste do for us in the long term? - Save your wallet from grocery spending - Tax money spent on managing landfills can go elsewhere - It will put less pressure on farms having to over produce If you want to keep up to date with our sustainable movements, tips on reducing your waste in your home or at work, be sure to follow all our social media platforms. 14.01.2022 Interested in coffee ground recycling? Whether it’s an early morning start or staying awake to watch your favourite TV show, coffee is always there for us. But what happens to the coffee grounds that are put in the bin? Do they get recycled, made into other products or just end up in landfill? It’s a question you may like to ask yourself next time you order your flat white in the morning. For a product to have so many secondary benefits, it amazes me that only 7% of coffee g...rounds are being recycled in Australia’s major cities. From fertilizer, medicine, compost, bio-fuel, cleaning aid to even fire logs, coffee grounds have so many extra benefits besides filling up our landfills. An outstanding 9 out of 10 customers say they are happy to spend an extra 5c - 10c for coffee to see the grounds recycled. 05.01.2022 THE WAR ON WASTE CONTINUES... Let's innovate this space Gippsland and lead the way! Ask your local cafe or restaurant what they are planning to do (if they haven't made changes already) or if they have signed up to their local coffee grounds or food waste pick up service... These are small changes, but the changed can often dictate who we support and why... These are changes that we can get ahead of the curb with, and show other regional areas how Gippsland plans to lead the... way in this space! Or not and sit back and wait for the changes to be mandated by local laws... http://about.abc.net.au/war-on-waste-fixing-your-coffee-fix/

05.01.2022 Ever thought of running a house from coffee grounds? Coffee ground waste may not be as wasteful as you may think. It can have so many practical uses that I am sure you are not aware of. Did you know that the shiny layer on top of your coffee is a natural oil? But not of the oils make it into the coffee. Some of the oils are left in the grounds. These oils can be extracted to make biofuels which can be used in generators to create a healthier and cleaner form of electricity.... Currently in the UK, Bio-Bean is taking coffee grounds from cafes and producing enough biofuel each year to power 15,000 British homes. Imagine if there were 100 biofuel plants around the world doing the same. If you want to keep up to date with our sustainable movements, tips on reducing your waste in your home or at work, be sure to follow all our social media platforms.
