16.01.2022 3 Quick Baby Water Play Ideas! Easy to set up and lots of fun. These ideas are suited at babies 5+ months. Babies don’t need lots of water to play with just enough to make a splash and explore a bit. Ball Play - Ping Pong Balls in a shallow dish taped to the floor is great for hand eye coordination. Babies love tummy time trying to catch the balls. Ice Ice Baby! - Giant ice cubes make a fun experience for babies to explore both temperature and texture. You could add saf...e ideas inside or even just coloured water. @kmart sells giant ice cube trays for less than $2 Sponge in a Dish - Cut up sponges into different shapes and place into a dish of water. I used a heavy one so Miss 7 months can’t knock it over. The feel on the sponges is great for little curious minds. . . . What’s your baby’s favourite water play idea? 11.01.2022 The Best Toy For a Baby is YOU! When we bring a newborn baby into our family we’re often showered with lovely gifts including soft toys, rattles or mobiles that our babies love to play with. Toys help them grow and develop all their senses to help them understand their world. The BEST toy that you can give your baby is time with you. Getting on the floor with them and giving them your full attention will benefit them greatly. When you baby makes noises, copy them to reinf...orce their language skills. Having your face close to theirs gives your baby a sense of trust and security. This bond then forms the foundation for future language skills both verbal and non verbal. Sing songs and rhymes to your baby along with actions like incy wincy spider or twinkle twinkle little star. Babies love seeing hands and fingers move above them. Read stories to your baby, talk about the pictures. When going for a walk talk about what you can see and point out different things like trees, birds and houses. All this interaction with your child is by far the most beneficial type of PLAY a baby can experience. So don’t stress about having a latest popular toys for your baby when all they need is YOU!

09.01.2022 Inside & Outside Shapes A simple #finemotoractivity that can cater for a wide age range! Press SAVE ! This started with a simple ‘colour the shapes’ activity which turned into a measurement activity that could be great to teach area and perimeter. Miss 3.8 is a bit young for those terms so we talked about inside and outside the shapes. ... I made some shape stencils from a cereal box and stuck them to butchers paper. I modelled how to trace inside the stencil and then decorate them. Miss 3.8 enjoyed created different designs. After she finished I stuck the cut out shapes to the page and coloured around it creating the shape inside the stencil. This was trickier but she got the hang of it. We talked about the shape we could see and how we had created them in different ways. We talked about the white area on the page and how it was different. Older kids could measure the area and perimeter and also compare the sizes of the different shapes. This is definitely one I’d do again when she’s a bit older! @ Healesville, Victoria
