For the resources industry, he oversaw key reforms to reinvigorate mineral and gas exploration, the further development of our gas and critical mineral reserves, and he worked with industry to improve the conditions for the coal, mineral and gas industries to invest more and employ more. 20.01.2022 Saturday 19 September was the Miners Memorial Day service, a time to formally pause and honour the memory of all those who have lost their life working in Queensland mines. QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane attended the service, paying his respects and emphasising the importance of keeping health and safety as the industrys number one priority.

18.01.2022 The QRC has welcomed a $500 million investment by our member company Glencore which will see its Mount Isa copper smelter and Townsville refinery extend operations beyond 2022. This agreement secures ongoing employment for about 570 direct smelter and refinery workers, and a further 1,000 indirect jobs.

From 1am tomorrow, interstate-based FIFO workers from NSW and the ACT will not be allowed to enter Qld, until border restrictions lift. In the latest GDP figures released last night, the sector was one of the few bright lights in the Australian economy, with our states coal projects contributing significantly to the industrys overall growth. The mining industry bucked the national trend to see a 0.2 per cent increase in output during the June quarter, which is also a 1.1 per cent rise on the same period last year, Minister for Resources Keith Pitt.

08.01.2022 QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane has been on the road this week in North Queensland promoting our most recent State of the Sector report. Yesterday he spoke from the new Resources Centre of Excellence in Mackay about the crucial role the mining and gas sector will play in Queenslands recovery from COVID-19. The report found the industry contributes $6.7 billion to Mackays economy, along with supporting 30,055 full time jobs and investing $3.5 billion dollars into local businesses and community organisations.
