25.01.2022 Meet our speaker Jennifer Hewett - Political Journalist via Zoom. After the US elections.

24.01.2022 Time to Change and Rotarians need to decide is it time to take Action? At the age of 27 years I was honoured to be invited to join the local Rotary Club, quite ...prestigious in those days, I was told very firmly by a PDG we were not a fundraising organisation, but one who put Service first. We changed every year to keep vibrant, relevant and we were a catalyst for helping the community take forward projects, Rotary moved on to remain flexible in its service. In the 1980's we lived in a very different world of today, Rotary has indeed a fantastic track record of 115 years of Service and some incredible achievements over those years. However our founder Paul Harris was a visionary and innovator, he urged us to be evolutionary and sometimes revolutionary, it is Rotarians, time now to revolt whilst being evolutionary, time to be an organisation that meets the needs of the 21st Century. The time has come to face reality, every Rotarian must ask the questions 'Do we want Rotary to be in this world another 100 years as an inspirational organisation that takes action?' and 'Will we help the change or will we carp that change should be resisted and for those who attempt to bring us into a fast moving society they must be stopped?' On becoming a District Governor I don't seek popularity or being alone, I'd hoped to help Rotary be the change and give back what it has given me. An exciting journey, the ability to work with different teams, an international friendship network, greater understanding of world culture, the ability to share ideas and be a change maker in a world that still has many issues to tackle. I sort a role which wasn't being alone or doing it alone, but doing it with like minded people who had the same goal as innovators and Social Change advocates. Our present predicament of being in a pandemic makes it harder for all, here I advocate care of each other and kindness. For an organisation that cares about our community and the world, our care internally must be 100% too! Our modern world of Technology & Social Media, needs Rotarians to be adaptable, fast moving and ready to be more inclusive. It doesn't matter what age you are, it is our need to live in a fast moving society that still needs lots of Action and Care, not one that is anchored to days past and an inability to make decisions on the move, that take us forwards and continues to respond to need at home and internationally. So all my Rotarians and Rotaractor friends, our time is now, do we want to be that Service organisation of the 21st Century that is ready to help build the new normal. Or are we still in that time-warp where we cling to our Standing Orders, old ways, bling and decisions that must be done in the 'right way of days past'? Turning the tanker can take an age or we can realise that the iceberg is getting closer! Let's throw the chairs overboard into the sea, let's get rid of the weight that's stopping the turning and let's steam onto to new destinations with people clamouring to be on this exciting journey with us. DG doesn't stand for Dumping Ground, it stands for 'Doing and Going' and it hopes that we are all in this together to Take Action and Give Service in a world that needs Rotary for many more years to come.
