25.01.2022 Understanding Goitrogenic Foods A goitrogen is a substance that may interfere with iodine utilisation or thyroid hormone production. You may have heard of a goitre which is an enlargement of the thyroid gland. This is one of the earliest signs of iodine deficiency. There is a common misconception that consuming goitrogens automatically leads to thyroid dysfunction or goitre. However, no substantial evidence exists that validates this. Nonetheless, there are some populatio...ns who do need to be aware of the goitrogens they consume, and, with small tweaks, can eat these foods with no ill effects on thyroid health. The population groups that should be most concerned with goitrogens are those who are iodine deficient, have subclinical hypothyroid (mild thyroid failure), or have antibodies against thyroid proteins. The reason iodine is so important when you are discussing goitrogens is, iodine is a key regulator of thyroid gland function. Here are some simple ways to limit exposure to foods containing goitrogens: Goitrogens are deactivated through the cooking process, so limit the amount of goitrogens eaten raw or lightly steam them. Iodine deficiency is exacerbated by selenium deficiency. So, in addition to consuming iodine-rich foods, consuming foods high in selenium is good practice. Eat tuna, nuts (especially brazil nuts), and sardines. Include iodine-containing foods. Eat a diet rich in seafood, shellfish, sea vegetables like kelp, dulse nori, wake, kombu, and sea salt. Substitute soy milk with other milks like almond, coconut, or oat. Rotate goitrogenic vegetables with other leafy greens and well as different types of lettuce and rocket. Eat vegetables exhibiting all of the colours of the rainbow! Chat to me today if you have any questions or concerns! And remember, it can sometimes only take small changes to make a huge difference to your health #nutritionist #nutritionadvice #healthandwellness #diversediet #thyroidhealth #sydneynutritionist #healthyliving #balancedlife

23.01.2022 What brings YOU joy?? Writing this sentence down recently actually caused an emotional reaction in me. As mums, our lives get so busy and we spend so much time making sure everyone else is ok, that we sometimes lose sight of what brings US joy. When I think about the list of all of the things that we need to do to feel good, feel healthy, and finish 2020 with energy, I realised how important it is to ensure making time for the activities that bring us joy are on that l...ist. I feel joy when I am: At the beach with my family. In connection with others. Dancing! Feelings of joy have a positive effect on our autonomic nervous system which is almost like a control system in the body and regulates our heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion. So more joy can lead to improved health! Why wouldn't you want more of that in your life? Tell me, what brings you joy? #choosejoy #selfcare #nervoussystem #mumlife #motherhood #mindfulness #selfcare #spiritualgrowth #gratitude #youareenough #seekjoy #lifecoach #sydneymum #joyful #joyfulliving #joyfulmotherhood #healthybusiness #sonyareynolds #nutritionistlife #balance #healthcoach #lifecoach #lifecoaches #lifecoachtowomen See more

22.01.2022 As we head into December and speed towards a new year, I invite you to think about how you might like to look after in 2021. So many of us spend our time giving of ourselves to others, that we don’t often think about how we might need to be supported. Whether you are a parent, a business owner, a service provider, a carer, a partner we all naturally give over our energy in order to meet other people’s needs. Protecting our energy is something we need to be so mindfu...l of in order to stay healthy, avoid burnout, and reach our potential. A great way to access support is through finding a Life Coach. A Life Coach is someone who can help you identify your goals for the new year, develop a plan for how to achieve them, and can keep you accountable. Self-discovery can lead to incredible growth and the difference it makes to how you show up in the world will be transformative. Message me today if you would like to learn more about my Life Coaching services and how I can help you have a more enriching experience of life in 2021. Your cup deserves filling up too! #lifepurposecoach #coacheslife #lifecoachforwomen #spirituallifecoach #healthcoachlife #selfcareeveryday #selfcaretip #selfcareroutine #self_care #selfcarethreadsdaily #selfcareideas #selfcare #investinginyourself #investyourself #investinyourself #survivor2021 #settinggoals #goalsetting2020 #goalsettingtips #supportnetwork #workwithme

21.01.2022 How’s your energy levels? How’s your mood? I’ve had varying levels of energy and mood during this whole experience. I have to be honest, the weeks where we were distance learning and both of us parents were trying to work PLUS keep us all fed and watered was INTENSE.... We were so thankful to be able to take a breather with the school holidays! Taking the pressure off, sleep ins and slow mornings helped me reset. This week we are back to school, and here are some of the strategies to maintain my sanity 1. Daily magnesium and B vitamins - these 2 key nutrients are involved in our stress response. Our adrenals use up more B’s, and we need them to produce our neurotransmitters (serotonin, dopamine) More magnesium is excreted when we are stressed, and if you’re like me and doing higher intensity of training, you need more again! My suggestion is to use a Practitioner Only supplement at this time, some over the counter products use sub standard doses of the b complex and magnesium. Don’t waste your money with products that will end up down the Vitamins zinc and C are imperative to help minimise the effects of stress also. Yes, we hear how they are key to supporting the immune system, however vitamin C is also used up by our adrenals. And zinc is one of key nutrients with magnesium and B vitamins in creating our neurotransmitters. If you’re needing support at this time, feel free to reach out

20.01.2022 Here is a case study of one of my clients who came in for fat loss and wondering whether they had potential food intolerances. DM me if you like to check if you have food intolerances!

19.01.2022 A beautiful client of mine finished up my 6 Week Fat Loss Program last week with amazing results! She is 63 years of age and has spent the last few years living on a fasted and ketogenic diet, yet she wasn't getting any results. In fact, her cholesterol went up and the kilos wouldn't shift. When we started working together, I placed her on a whole foods style of eating (that included CARBS!) She was shocked that after 6 weeks she has lost 7kg, 5% body fat, and retained all mu...scle. What a result. I am currently taking bookings for my 6 Week Fat Loss Program which is starting in late January. Contact me today for details on how you can get involved. I would love to support you in starting 2021 in the healthiest and most sustainable way possible! #fatlosshelp #fatlosstransformation #fatlossgoals #fatlossmotivation #nutritionable #nutritionplan #losebellyfat #nutritions #loseweght #healthynutrition #nutritiongoals #lossweight #eatwholefoods #wholefoodsdiet #wholefoodsimply #wholefoodslife #allergyfriendly #kalesalad #nutritiousanddelicious #eatmoreveggies #balancebasics #nutritionistlife #sydneymum #clientlove #healthyresults

17.01.2022 A great study demonstrating those people who ate walnuts were cognitively 2 years younger than their counterparts! The serving size is 30g 5 x a week. I’d suggest mixing up your nut mix so it’s not always the same one!

11.01.2022 Do you need caffeine and sugar to give you energy? Does your belly swell up as soon as you eat something ‘you shouldn’t have’? Then perhaps you have a food intolerance! When we eat foods our bodies can’t tolerate, it triggers an inflammatory process that starts in your digestive system and affects your body. Our microvilli (the fingerlike projections on your gut wall) can become damaged and as a result, we ABSORB less of our nutrients and sometimes end up with deficiencies in... minerals, such as iron and zinc. Malabsorption leads to enzyme deficiencies. Iron and zinc are both crucial for the creation of enzymes that have important functions such as: 1. Helping to break down our food. 2. Assimilation of nutrients found in your diet. If we don’t absorb enough iron and zinc, it’s harder to make digestive enzymes! One study found participants who removed IgG reactive foods lost on average 5.5kg in 3 months. So, if you are reaching for more sugar or coffee for energy, your body may be lacking the nutrients to keep the battery that you are running on (your mitochondria) going. If you think food intolerance could be an issue for you, we can do an IgG food intolerance test. This involves an easy finger-prick blood test and assesses 96 different foods. Knowledge is power and finding out more about how your body is operating is a brilliant way to start in 2021. #foodintolerance #foodintolerances #allergy #fodmapfriendly #digestivehealth #sanslactose #guthealing #guthealthmatters #bloating #sibo #dietitianapproved #ibsdiet #irritablebowelsyndrome #glutenfreeeats #glutenfreedairyfree #glutenfreelifestyle #gluten_free #dairyfreelife #glutenfreemeals #guthealthy #guthealthiseverything #guthealthcoach #holisticnutritionist #nutritionists #nutritionistapproved #nutritionistlife

11.01.2022 **CHECK YOUR NAILS** Anyone else got sad looking nails because of iso?! Take a close up photo of your nails and bring it to your next consult #nutritionist #nutritioniskey #nailsigns #innerwest #innerwestsydney

10.01.2022 I am thrilled to have so many new faces here, and thought it was time to re-introduce myself! I am Sonya - a Nutritionist, Life Coach, and Mum to two gorgeous girls. My interest in Nutrition was sparked by a deep desire to help people heal themselves. I find working in Nutrition and seeing the changes in my clients lives incredibly satisfying.... My knowledge and experience in Nutrition soon became the key to healing my family, when my eldest daughter was diagnosed with a sudden onset, rare and aggressive epilepsy at age 3. Drawing on my skills and a deep understanding of the body, I was able to make changes that positively impacted my daughter’s life and she is now attending a mainstream school something we weren’t sure would be possible. It was whilst working with families in the clinic that I found myself wanting to help the parents of children with additional needs more closely, and soon completed my study to become a Life Coach. I work one on one with women who feel they are no longer a priority in their own life and help them to achieve goals that they may have put aside while focusing on their family. I am deeply passionate about the mind, body, and spirit and love bringing knowledge and power to my clients. 05.01.2022 Christmas can be a joyous time of the year for so many. But after the year we have had, it is little wonder that getting to Christmas Day might feel like a heavier burden than normal. Add on top of that the mental load of motherhood during December and this is what you're dealing with: - Planning and shopping for Christmas lunch - Sticking to a budget... - Planning everyone's presents - Trying to shop without kids in tow - Wrapping all the presents - 'Keeping the magic alive' organising half bitten carrots and half-drunk glasses of milk after the kids have gone to sleep - Dealing with disappointments - Cooking, cooking, cooking - Cleaning after everyone has left - Returning presents that weren't right Who's tired just reading this? Mums, I want you to go easy on yourself this Christmas. We've all survived an incredibly challenging year and we deserve to celebrate this day just like everyone else. Whether it's buying part of lunch rather than preparing from scratch, or gifting yourself a half an hour bath, or mindfully consuming that second bowl of dessert - remember to honour yourself as well this festive season! #mentalload #motherload #changingtheworld #honestmommin #flipthescript #mothering #honestlymothering #honestmothering #santaiscoming #santaclause #santashelper #christmaslove #christmasjoy #mumguilt #workingmumlife #parentinglife #workingmums #consciousparenting #mindfulparenting #momguilt #maternalmentalhealth #tiredmumsclub #mumsquad
