12.01.2022 SWSA CRUISER RACES BD1& BD2 - MARTINE AND RHYTHMIC MAKE THEIR MARK Having cancelled races BD1 and BD2 earlier in the season, SWSA took the opportunity to reschedule to October. Roger and Susan Hayward duly stepped up for the race officer duties. Hence in a light Easterly breeze, nine boats assembled for the pre-race manoeuvres. The local seal was certainly surprised by the late season turnout, occasionally popping-up to check why his Saturday morning had been disturbed ! Fla...gs down, and it was race on, with Enigma and Hooligan pulling ahead on the upwind leg to Deans Lake, but the F27 Martine overhauling both on the reaching legs. Down in class 2, Rhythmic was making a fight of it, holding his own against the class 1 stragglers. Round Deans Elbow, to the edge of the moorings and the finish line beckoned. In the closing stages the wind died, but Martine held on for line honours, Enigma second, and Hooligan and Close Encounter virtually side by side to the finish. Nevertheless, with race BD2 to follow the same afternoon , the tail enders would soon get a second chance. No time for a sandwich though, we are back into the countdown, 5 minutes, 4, 1, go! Same course, so no risk of getting lost ! Close Encounter first to the upwind mark, but soon to be overhauled by Martine. Some close sailing for the three leading monohulls down to Deans Elbow, but Enigma eventually pulls free, then Hooligan clears the wind shadow, chased by Close Encounter. Further down the fleet some questions are being asked of end of season bottom condition and potency of anti-fouling. But too late now, the final race of the season is ending, with Martine taking double line honours in class 1 and Rhythmic in class 2. Congratulations to both. Many thanks to our competitors, race officers and race organisers for contributing to a great season. Let’s look forward to more interclub racing in 2021. 10.01.2022 SWSA Cruiser Evening Race E7 - Wednesday 29th July

04.01.2022 SWSA CRUISER EVENING RACE E9 WEDNESDAY 26TH AUGUST 2020 My thanks to Bernard Fyans and John Selby of Erik the Red for the following race report: When the race committee arrived and took up position, some time was taken to decide on the appropriate course. The wind being fresh from the WSW it was decided that setting a South Westerly course rather than a Westerly would give more of a challenge for beating upwind. That done, the committee set about the starting procedure and ...at the warning signal the horn failed with a whimper after a short blast. A hasty hunt in the cabin followed for another horn before the Preparation signal ! The start was enlivened with one competitor being over the line before the start signal and having to return to the pre-start side of the line. Everyone else seemed to get away cleanly as the race committee were not aware of any shouting and screaming ! As the race progressed it became clear that some competitors could be barred from a finish by the time limit as the good sailing breeze was dropping rather quickly. Hence the committee took times as competitors rounded the buoy Hound, enabling them to shorten course retrospectively. Increasingly getting into her stride, Martine took class 1 line honours. On corrected time too Martine prevailed with Enigma second and Sundance third. In class 2, Rhythmic continued her winning streak, finishing ahead of Bedouin in second and Bluebar in third. The SWSA Evening Series continues with the final race of the season on Friday 11th September.
