25.01.2022 Very excited for our friends Jon and Sarah Lark, the founders of Kangaroo Island Spirits (and distillers of our own #baillies9 gin), who recently announced their next chapter will see a facelift for the Cygnet River cellar door and a new product to try, KI’s first-ever whisky. 24.01.2022 As 2020 draws to a close, it’s a relief to hear that most Australian states and territories are working towards reopening borders before Christmas. Aussie’s have shown they’re a resilient bunch of travellers ready to #holidayherethisyear and with summer just around the corner, it’s time to reclaim our love of travel, to reconnect with loved ones and to discover some far-flung destination like @southaustralia’s wildly beautiful Kangaroo Island! @_aswewander

24.01.2022 The stunning, natural tapestry of Smugglers Cove on the remote KI coast - white sheep grazing in a green field, beside orange lichen-clad rocks and the icy-blue ocean. 24.01.2022 Teams of Adelaide beekeepers have travelled to Kangaroo Island and built 500 new beehives for local producers impacted by the devastating summer bushfires. About 15,000 km away from the Ligurian bees’ ancestral home of Italy, KI is believed to host the world’s last genetically pure population of the species. The willingness of beekeepers on the mainland to lend a hand to build-a-bee-box comes as no surprise to Island Beehive owner Peter Davis who says the generosity of the industry is 'just amazing'. 23.01.2022 The uncertainty caused by a series of extended state border restrictions has had an enormous and detrimental impact on the tourism industry in the era of the Coronavirus pandemic. Now’s the time to come together and lobby the State Premiers and Chief Ministers to reopen borders with protocols in place for safe travel between states. Please join us in our bid to #saveaussietourism; visit www.saveaustraliantourism.com to read the open letter to our state leaders and add your name to the list of supporters. 21.01.2022 Kangaroo Island’s glossies were flourishing until the fires. Now the tale of one family’s survival has offered fresh hope. Australia.com South Australia Authentic Kangaroo Island

16.01.2022 ‘Our sea lions are so nifty in the waves it’s easy to forget their ancestry. But their flippers tell the story of a land-based mammal that’s evolved to pursue a carnivorous life at sea - and whose closest relatives are bears and dogs’. Flippin’ fascinating facts and image from local writer and photographer @quentinchester.

15.01.2022 If you're looking for a fine feast on your travels to Kangaroo Island (be it next month or next year), head to lunch or dinner at Sunset Food and Wine. The modern bistro looks out over American Beach and is owned by Jack Ingram, former executive chef of Southern Ocean Lodge and his wife Vanessa (also lodge alumni). The menu is stacked with fresh local seafood and produce, showcasing some of the best the region has to offer such as rock lobster, kingfish sashimi, lamb, oysters, gin, wine, figs and honey. 05.01.2022 Kangaroo Island has a raw, untamed spirit and it’s a place to experience the quiet still of nature, and bear witness as wildlife from kangaroos, echidnas and koalas to fur seals and sea lions goes about its business undisturbed as it has for eons. Rimmed by a dazzling coastline and crisscrossed by unsealed roads, while scarred in places, this land reassures and restores visitors with nature’s vitality, and in the current climate we see that as much as hardship and disaster may strike, regeneration is just around the corner. #holidayherethisyear @_aswewander

03.01.2022 Last month Southern Ocean Lodge managers Alison and John participated in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count, a crowdsourcing initiative aimed to document sightings of birds nation-wide over the course of one week. The data is used to help better understand the patterns of population and growth amongst our beloved endemic species. This year over 4.6 million sightings were recorded, and over 100,000 people participated! Kangaroo Island is home to hundreds of species of birds, j...ust like this Osprey which makes its nest on a remote coastal bluff nearby to Hanson Bay. Some of the birds documented by Alison and John included Australian Crows, Honeyeaters, Magpies, Wedgetail Eagles, Osprey, Wrens and their Parrot Jerry! If you missed out there is always next year! 01.01.2022 In a year when many places have been out of reach, Condé Nast Traveler readers have remembered the places that brought them comfort, that they still connected with long afterward, that got them through the months without travel. Among the 35 best islands in the world outside the U.S, South Australia's Authentic Kangaroo Island has been voted No.2 in the 2020 Readers' Choice Awards survey. Shout out to our southern neighbour, Tourism Tasmania, for securing the No.1 spot! #holidayherethisyear
