24.01.2022 A wonderful resident of Strathfield and long time collaborator and performer with us. You can see our history with Miram Hyde on our website. We donated her handwritten program notes for some of her wonderful orchestral compositions to the NSW State Library. https://strathfieldsymphony.org.au//miriam-hydes-centenary/

20.01.2022 Well Ive officially hit that phase of the quarantine... This ones for my teacher peeps!

20.01.2022 It is with regret that we are cancelling our upcoming concert, The Scots (4&5 April) due to the ongoing COVID-19 risk minimisation. Our immediate priority is to keep our audience and players fit and well. The very nature of ensemble playing means we are unavoidably in close quarters which is not advisable in minimising infection risk. We will be contacting ticket holders shortly and arranging refunds for any pre-booked tickets. We hope very much to be back for our Season 2 concert in June. Stay tuned and keep well.

20.01.2022 Tune in to the Strathfield Council Online Christmas Carols to hear our very own Strathfield Strings rocking out some cracking Christmas numbers!

20.01.2022 I would choose Debussy, or maybe Stravinsky. What wonderful classical work would you choose to wash your hands to?

19.01.2022 Do you know anyone over 65? Invite them to our free seniors concert this Sunday. Here is a sneek peek of the program. 2.30pm, Strathfield Town Hall. No need to book. Careers and grandkids welcome.

19.01.2022 It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of our Season 2 concert USA that was schedule for June. We just won't have time to do the program justice! Our players are hanging out to get back to rehearsal, so hopefully we will be back with you in the second half of the year. Stay well!

11.01.2022 I know that the Academy of St Martins in the Fields and Joshua Bell don't even come close to Strathfield Symphony live with Aiko Goto, but in these strange times, we all have to make compromises! Here is a playlist of what would have been our Season 1 concert for you to enjoy during your social distancing. #NowPlaying

10.01.2022 A wonderful article by one of our first violin players. Our orchestra is made up of players who mostly have professional careers outside of music, but playing brings them, and our community, immense joy. It's never too late to start and it is never all or nothing!

10.01.2022 #bestconductorever

Complying with the current social distancing requirements and outdoor gathering restrictions of 20 people, we will be playing in a local park. 02.01.2022 (post 1/2) Vale John Cran KPO was very saddened to hear of the news that John Cran passed away last week with daughter Lucinda by his side, after a stroke.... John was an inspiration to us all, continuing to play actively in orchestras and chamber music concerts right up to the last. As recently as June last year, he performed as soloist in Berwalds Konzertstück with the Balmain Sinfonia. Of course, he will be remembered most significantly for his role as Principal Bassoon with Sydney Symphony, a position he held for just over 40 years, and continued with undiminished skill well after most would have retired. Retirement was not a slow-down for John, he continued to play in several orchestras and was as busy as ever performing, teaching, repairing instruments & making reeds right into his 90s. For KPO, he was a huge supporter of the Concerto Competition, co-founded by his wife Barbara who died in 2011. John organised the adjudicators & scheduling (with remote assistance from the US by his son Simeon) for countless years, and in recent years presented the Barbara Cran Award at the Finals concert. He was also an esteemed soloist with KPO on seven occasions (the first being a performance with Lucinda back in 1981), and helped out KPO as a player when needed (especially if it was for the Concerto Competition). John is pictured here presenting the 2014 Barbara Cran Award at the KPO Concerto Competition Finals Concert to violinist Jasmine Baric, along with Ara Vartoukian OAM of Theme & Variations Piano Services, conductor Steven Hillinger and adjudicator Paul Dean.

02.01.2022 Special harp and solo rehearsal tonight with our soloist Aiko Goto, harp Julie Kim and our artistic director, Sadaharu Muramatsu. Buy a ticket to the concert and get special behind the scenes access to our open rehearsal next week!

02.01.2022 Great socially distanced shenanigans on Sunday in the park! We will be there, same time, same place in 2 weeks.

01.01.2022 Great outdoor rehearsal today. We had the youngest of the Muramatsu clan join on a tiny double bass and also had a guest student conductor, Mikhaela Wu, a master of conducting student studying with our artistic director Sadaharu Muramatsu.
