24.01.2022 Aunty Ollie Ralph, Aunty Judith Rose Thomas, Aunty Netty Shaw, and Lisa from the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community attended our Community Welcome Event for 4th and 5th-year medical students during Orientation week. The Rural Clinical School was proud to host such key community members at this event to showcase their rich cultural connections with country and a beautiful display of craftsmanship. Aunty Judith Rose shared a beautiful collection of her acrylic paintings of Tasmania...n Aboriginal petroglyphs and Palawa landscapes on canvas. Aunty Nettie Shaw creates exquisite bull kelp baskets used to carry water and other items, as well as earrings and other jewellery inspired by nature and natural resources. Aunty Ollie Ralph is a mainland Aboriginal woman from the Murray River. Aunty Ollie weaves and coils using the flax plant to make intricate hand-woven baskets, adorned with shells and feathers. Rustica is the Ru...ral health Club of Tasmania with members studying and working in many areas of health including medicine, nursing, paramedicine and pharmacy. They span 3 campuses across the state including the Rural Clinical School in Burnie on the North West Coast of Tasmania where rural health is a primary focus of learning. Rustica hosts events such as quiz nights, cooking competitions, photography competitions, school visits, clinical school visits for the 3rd year medical students, and skills days. We had a fantastic turnout and our medical students completed numerous health checks! A great effort by the team. 12.01.2022 The amazing team over at the Launceston Clinical School University of Tasmania have put together a fantastic film for the first years (Virtual) Rural Week. Normally our First Year medical students would come up from Hobart and visit the beautiful North-West Coast for a week and visit places like the Narawntapu National Park, meet members of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre, Launceston Clinical School staff and students, The Rural Clinical School staff and students, local businesses such as Mt Gnomon Farm, Wilderness Scenarios and team building exercises. We unfortunately could not go ahead with this years camp, but our incredible staff at the Clinical Schools and UTAS have put together some great learning activities online for our students.

10.01.2022 Smithton High School Visit - RCS Health Program | Our 4th Year medical students had a blast with the Year 8 students at Smithton High School yesterday, talking all things health. Our medical students ran 4 x station workshops, with the classes rotating between stations. The Rural Clinical School Health Program covers topics like Party First Aid, Healthy Hearts, Understanding Human Behaviour & Healthy Sleep Techniques. Smithton High School was very enthusiastic throughout the workshops with plenty of questions throughout the day. Thank you Smithton High School for having us! We enjoy providing fun and informative sessions about health to our local communities.

The first 2020 weekend visit is scheduled for 28-29 March (registrations close 14 March) which coincides with the Tasmanian Rural Health Conference 2020 (which is free for students but be quick as tickets are limited!).
