24.01.2022 Still one of my favourite possessions. This beautiful "Latham's Bride Cakes" cabinet has been with me since my first shop and has lived in quite a few different places. It is now in my home studio bringing in me joy each time I look at it, 30 years later A very special antique piece which was obviously used to display wedding cakes many moons ago.

22.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 8 "The Start" The very first piece of millinery I created was a bridal headpiece for my beautiful sister-in-law Michelle. The second photo is my daughter Cessie and I also wearing pieces I made for the wedding and the 3rd & 4th show my headpiece which I handmade all the roses for. I made that first piece in 1994 so that was the start for me and my millinery journey and I havent stopped making hats since

22.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 24 "Hat Block" A fundamental piece in Millinery. I have stopped counting but I think I have at least a hundred hat blocks now. You can never have too many!

21.01.2022 Yayyyy! My personalised little wooden labels finally arrived! Each one of my Curiosity Collection Hats will now be "signed" with one of these

20.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 28 "Photography" Its one thing to spend days on end making hats but photographing them is just as an important part of the process. Fortunately most phones these days have brilliant cameras but sometimes only a person with a proper photography talent can capture the right shot. I am so very lucky that I have 3 daughters who have this talent, who have taken expert photos for me over the years @edenvictoriaphotography @cessiahalicephotos @shilohhender...sonmakeup I have also been fortunate to have some amazing professional photographers take some beautiful shots of my hats too. The Millinery industry is so grateful to the likes of @richshawphoto who is an absolute master behind the camera See more

20.01.2022 Another Hat from my "Curiosity Collection" Unisex Australian wool felt, wide brim with tan leather band and bow, boho braid, wooden guitar pic, feathers and beads. "Stevie" $365 DM to purchase/inquiries @ Geelong, Victoria

20.01.2022 Making masks for days! These ones for guys available @bluesuedegeelong Made from high quality cotton with inner filter layer.

20.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 27 Competition Entry. This hat is one I designed several years ago as an entry for the Royal Geelong Show. It is a hand dyed sculptured straw with French tooled silk flowers. I called it Narnia and if you look close you can see a little gold lion hiding amongst the flowers. It came First place so I was fairly chuffed The 3rd photo is my entry in the Oaks Day Millinery Award last year which placed in the Top 10 which needless to say was much stiffer competition than the Geelong Show so it was a much prouder moment for me!

19.01.2022 New masks in Aussie Fabrics! Geelong made by an Aussie using Aussie fabrics Aussie Aussie Aussie! Reversible, cotton with filter inner layer. Pre washed and sanitised before packaging. Washable and reusable $20 each. Available @bluesuedegeelong or online www.bluesuede.com.au

17.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 10 "On the Workbench" Right now my workbench is super messy which obviously means I have been busy creating! There are so many trinkets, vintage bits and pieces and feathers I can hardly see the old timber of my workbench. I am flat out working on my Curiosity Collection. These are distressed hats that show a ton of character. I am in love with all of them! More photos coming soon

17.01.2022 "Phoenix" another fedora from my Curiosity Collection. A range of unisex distressed hats. Each unique. This one is an upcycled wool felt with vintage petersham ribbon band, beads, feathers and wooden feather, brass trinket & exposed stitching. Size 58cm $345 DM to purchase. @ Geelong, Victoria

14.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 20 "Being a Milliner means...." For me it means having a job you love that can sometimes be challenging and frustrating but most times rewarding. It means being as creative as you like and using your crazy imagination every day. It means hoarding endless materials that can be used in so many ways and forms. It means being involved with a great network of people including the lovely members of @millineryaustralia

13.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 22 "Sustainability " I have always loved using Vintage materials in my millinery. I love to upcycle old hats and breathe a new life into them. I even struggle to throw old clothes away because I might just need the fabric they are made from...one day Many a hat lining of mine has been made from a pre loved blouse My new Collection is all about Australian Made and Sustainability too. The hat pictured here is made from an upcycled base with a vintage leather belt for a band @ Geelong, Victoria

13.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 21 "Materials" A Milliner uses SO MANY materials!!!! A crazy long list! Straw, felt, tin, leather, silk, wire, cotton, feathers, plastic, lace, paint, satin and the list goes on and on......

12.01.2022 I had a wonderful few mornings Zooming in to Lina Stein's studio in Ireland learning some more Hatmaking tricks. I thoroughly enjoyed hooking up with 5 other milliners from all over the country. Thank you so much @linastein

11.01.2022 I got a new toy! Only a Milliner would get excited about this It measures hat sizes without the use of a tape measure.

11.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day26 Mentor/ Mentee I am so lucky to have had my daughter @cessiah.alice.millinery with me for the best part of my Millinery journey. I think we have become each others mentors and mentees. We bounce ideas off each other on a weekly basis and we are blessed to have each other I also must credit the MAA @millineryaustralia as a mentor as a whole group of people who indirectly provide a lot of inspiration and support.

11.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 7 "Partnership" Like most Milliners I dont have an actual partner as such but I am lucky enough to have a daughter who is also a Milliner. @cessiah.alice.millinery We trained together, attend forums & classes together, bounce ideas off each other and talk about Millinery on a daily basis and even though Cessie lives in another state, in effect I guess we are partners of a unique kind #partnersincrime

11.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 19 "Model" I have been lucky enough to know some gorgeous girls who have been my models over the years. My latest hats, "Curiosity Collection" were modelled by my daughter @shilohhendersonmakeup ( & Luna the cat) And early ranges were modelled by @georgiaatwinifreds ... @kimberleyriddett & Oaks Day Millinery Awards entries @hayley.carter.r @katieellisonn @sophie_obrien13 None of these girls are professional models but they did an amazing job. And they are all beautiful inside and out See more

11.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 29 #Favourite Tool" I cant possibly settle on one tool only. It would be like choosing between my children!! So I have cut it down to my scissors which I seriously love!!!, my French flower making tools and.... my new steam iron station thingy... Seriously why the heck have I not been told about this before!!!? BEST MILLINERY TOOL EVER!!!

09.01.2022 Woohoo!!! 13 wool felts have arrived and are waiting to be blocked!!!!! Just need to find time between making masks

09.01.2022 Introducing my "Curiosity Collection" This new collection has been a labour of love I was asked awhile ago by a singer/guitarist if I could make his hat look worn and give it some character. So I set about destroying it After setting it on fire, brushing, sanding and rubbing dye on strategic places I started on the fun part of adding quirky details. I have accumulated bucket loads of trinkets and curiosities over the years so I dug through my treasures and added them to t...he hat. The hat went back to its owner looking totally loved and full of character. He loved it and I enjoyed the process so much that I decided this is what I have been waiting for! A Millinery style that is right up my alley! I love that each hat is unique and I have come to terms with parting with my curiosities because they make the hats look so dang good! And the new wearer will love those details as much as I do. All of my hats are either made by me right here in my studio, in Australia or they are vintage, upcycled or recycled for sustainability. They are unisex, various sizes and each a one off but can be slightly customized or resized. I will be posting more as soon as we get some more pics taken, so if you are interested DM me This is "Robin" $365 Mens size medium. Ladies size large. Beautiful Forest Green wool felt with pheasant feathers, wooden guitar pick, deer pin, millinery ribbon, wool tweed and contrasting stitching. @ Geelong, Victoria See more

09.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 14 "Hat Lining" I love a good hat lining! I like to use different and unexpected fabrics. It is like a cheeky little surprise when the hat is turned over, a secret that only you know about while you are wearing it

09.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 17 "Hat Box" Ironically the first Hat Box I ever bought was before I became a Milliner. I bought it in 1989 because it had my surname on it and I have a passion for vintage things and it was inexpensive. So that Henderson hat box ticked all the boxes Unbelievably I came across a second one only a year later and I havent found another since. I have lost count of how many vintage hat boxes I own but it is probably more than 50 I do use them to store my treasures and I love them all but some of my favourites are one with Geelong and a name painted on it, an Antique leather Top Hat box with the hat still in it, a "Brights" Geelong Department store one with the original pink Breton inside and various other department store ones with address labels on them. Oh they tales that they could tell..... @ Geelong, Victoria

09.01.2022 A special hat I have been working on for a few days is going to her new home today. All boxed up and ready to leave home

08.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 18 "Latest Work" My latest work is my "Curiosity Collection" A very unique unisex collection of distressed hats. No two are the same. They are handcrafted, upcycled, recycled and each individually aged and trimmed. I have been working on these for months and loving every minute of it ... More to come! @ Geelong, Victoria See more

08.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 11 "Trends" Because of my love for all things Vintage I have never really followed trends. I think you should wear what makes you feel happy not what trends are dictating we should wear. In Millinery there are obvious trends ie. Crowns, Perchers, Wide brims etc But that is where it is great because every milliner puts their own spin on those trends, still showing their unique style This photo is of me and @cessiah.alice.millinery at Oaks Day 2018. Me not wearing a trendy dress but one I bought from a small boutique and I chose it for its quirkiness not because it was on trend

07.01.2022 I am so excited about my "Curiosity Collection" that I just had to post another one! Each hat is unisex, made in Australia and one of a kind. This is "Nicky" 59cm $345 Handblocked by yours truly, then burnt and aged and trimmed with a wool tweed band and bow, millinery Petersham, leather, beads, feather, embroided arrow and an old pistol pin. The colour varies in each photo due to the light but it is a mocha shade. DM to purchase.

07.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 12 "Hair up or Hair down?" For me it depends entirely on the hat. Broad brims look great with hair down..I love a sleek pony tail too. Sometimes to put focus on the headpiece definitely hair up. Horses for courses

06.01.2022 My finished fur felt Fedora made using techniques taught by @linastein via Zoom from Ireland last week. The possibilities of crown shape are endless

02.01.2022 D E T A I L S on one of that hats from my Curiosity Collection "Stevie" Handmade leather bow, feathers, wooden guitar pick, jute, beads and braid. Launching soon.... waiting on my new signature hat lining fabric to arrive!

01.01.2022 #millinerymaker Day 22 "Brand" My brand has evolved a great deal over the years. Having owned Retail stores for 30 years My branding was often the name of the store. Up until recently my branding was "Ruby & Leo" @rubyandleostore until I sold the shop and decided I would just stick to my name (even though it is looooong ) Because I make a lot of different things besides hats I decided Victoria Henderson Design was fitting and encompasses everything I do. This year I sta...rted my "Curiosity Collection" so one of my talented daughters @shilohbellecreative designed some new tags for me I LVE Green as you can see See more

01.01.2022 Handpainting feather detail, in gold on another hat for my Curiosity Collection

01.01.2022 I had a wonderful few mornings Zooming in to Lina Steins studio in Ireland learning some more Hatmaking tricks. I thoroughly enjoyed hooking up with 5 other milliners from all over the country. Thank you so much @linastein

Patiently waiting for my new signature lining material to arrive #distressedhats #bohohats #bohostyle #upcycle #recycledfashion #slowfashion #sustainablefashion #vintage #millinery #milliner #geelongmilliner #hatter #geelongbusiness #hatmaker
