25.01.2022 COLD WEEKEND FAILED TO DAMPEN SPIRITS: DESPITE a cold and windy weekend, a big "thank you" to both our customers and volunteers at Mitre 10, McDouall Stuart Ave, for ensuring it was still a successful two days of fundraising to help keep the Flying Doctor flying. For those of us who were not on duty, our thoughts were with everyone who braved the weather. Thought we were supposed to be heading towards summer??? Sunday's special, the "Doctor's Smooth Landing" (aka Bacon & Egg ...Sandwich) was again in high demand and will become a regular item at more of our outings. SATURDAY, OCT 31, SAUSAGE SIZZLES RESUME AT STRATCO: WE'RE back in action at Stratco as more Whyalla businesses start getting back to normal following the impact of Covid-19. So to the many DIYers who will be out and about Saturday perhaps catching up on jobs they should have done last weekend, you know where we will be when you need a "fuel" top up as the morning progresses. SUNDAY, NOV 1, ANOTHER BIG ONE AT WOOLWORTHS, VISCOUNT SLIM AVE: AND THE WEATHER just gets better with a forecast sunny, 27 degree day and with our BBQ trailer in action we'll have a very full menu including: The famous "Doctor's Smooth Landing" (Bacon & Egg sandwich.) "Flight Nurse's Special" (Burger pattie, egg & onion.) "Pilot's Pick Me Up" (Burger pattie & onion.) "Pilatus Speedy Flyer" (Sausage Sizzle & onion.) "Ready for Take Off" (Sausage Sizzle, plain.) We'll have a full team on deck ready to keep serving up tucker from 9.30-ish until hunger pangs are satisfied. Perhaps we'll seeya there. 25.01.2022 DYNAMIC DUO TO LOOK AFTER HUNGRY APPETITES AT WOOLWORTHS VISCOUNT SLIM ON SATURDAY! Yes folks, the Dynamic Duo (Aka Pete and Phill) will be back together ready to cook up a high flying menu to fill the hunger gaps of shoppers and passers-by from around 9.30 this Saturday (Nov 14). The crew will be on site until at least lunchtime and will keep the barbie going while customers are still hungry. The latest check of the weather forecast sees an upgraded maximum to around 35 degr...ees, and we won't ruin your day by telling you Sunday's forecast temp. Phill says it'll be a day for wearing shorts while the Akubra may stay home on the hat rack. Nevertheless, the crew will have plenty of Doctor's Smooth Landings (bacon & egg sandwich), Flight Nurse's Special (hamburger pattie, egg & onion), and Pilatus Speedy Flyer (snag & onion.) To all our local followers, the crew would love to see you to simply say "Hi" so perhaps you'll head our way when you are out and about, and help us to help keep the Flying Doctor flying..... always providing urgent flights to residents in need between Whyalla and Adelaide hospitals. 24.01.2022 ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL BBQ AT WOOLWORTHS VISCOUNT SLIM..... BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE..... THE CREW WILL BE BACK NEXT SATURDAY TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN! Despite the forecast 35 degrees, there was a surprisingly unexpected cool-ish breeze through the marquee with the temperature only reaching 30 after we had packed up by around 2-ish. Also another big "thank you" to our customers for there on-going support. We must be doing something right with our food as we have many regulars who fo...llow our Facebook page to ensure they know our locations - like Rod whose breakfast comprised two "Flight Nurse Specials" (hamburger pattie, egg & onion) and the lovely gentleman who this week had not four, but six "Pilatus High Flyers" (snag & onions), whew! To those who added their change and notes into the donation tin, fantastic generosity, thank you. It is very humbling to hear the many stories as to how the RFDS has had a major impact on their lives. Such response certainly spurs on our volunteers. BIG WEEKEND COMING UP - SAT 21 & SUN 22! Not only will today's crew be back at Woolies next Saturday, but a second crew will also be at Mitre 10, McDouall Stuart, and then a third crew at Mitre 10 on Sunday..... but more about that later in the week as we all do our bit to help keep the Flying Doctor flying. 14.01.2022 BRRRR! BACK TO WINTER FOR TODAY'S "SPRING" BBQ AT WOOLWORTHS VISCOUNT SLIM AVE. Arriving at 8.30 on a coolish, drizzling Whyalla morning to set up, we did wonder for a moment whether there would, in fact, be a BBQ. But fortunately the drizzle died down so it was back to work and our first cook-up was ready by 9.30. No doubt thanks to the weather, it was a slower day than previously with shoppers more intent on getting in and out quickly. Nevertheless, we fed some hungry appet...ites and thanked some generous donors popping notes and coins into the donation tin. A hearty "thank you" to everyone who supported us today. 14.01.2022 IN BREAKING NEWS..... LINE UP FOR TAKE OFF..... WOOLWORTHS BBQ SUNDAY IS GO, GO, GO! It'll be a warmish day, but we look forward to shoppers and our regular followers alike enjoying a hunger filler from around nine-ish at Woolworths Viscount Slim Ave. The crew will have plenty of Doctor's Smooth Landings, Flight Nurse Specials and Pilatus Speedy Flyers. Everything cooked fresh and plenty of onions.... Covid 19 regulations will apply. BUT WAIT, A SPECIAL NOVELTY TO CELEBRATE EARLY LOCKDOWN RELAXATION: We have a free squeaky crab for the first 12 customers who purchase a Doctors Smooth Landing (bacon and egg sandwich) and ask for a "squeaky crab on the side". And what does the crab have to do with the RFDS... Not a thing, they come from a special source and are said to be a collector's item. Just something to give us all a lighthearted moment. So perhaps we'll see some of our locals tomorrow as we all do our bit to help keep the Flying Doctor flying. Cheers! (Please feel free to share to spread the word)
13.01.2022 ALL BBQS CANCELLED THIS WEEKEND! Hi All, In accordance with the six-day lockdown coming in from midnight tonight (Wednesday), unfortunately that means our scheduled BBQs at Woolworths Viscount Slim on Saturday, and at Mitre 10 Saturday and Sunday, have been cancelled.... We will keep all our followers updated with our fundraising program when the lockdown is lifted and the latest restrictions are relaxed. Until then please stay safe, follow the new rules as difficult as that may be, and hopefully we can all smile a bit better this time next week. Cheers!

04.01.2022 ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR RFDS CENTRAL OPERATIONS! In a simple, but significant ceremony, the Premier has unveiled and launched a piece of artwork commissioned by the RFDS to recognise the start of NAIDOC Week celebrations, also being incorporated into RFDS uniforms. Held in the Adelaide Base hanger to a backdrop of the mighty PC 12 Pilatus workhorse aircraft today (Sunday 8) the Whyalla Support Group was pleased to have representatives present on such an important occasion.... You will no doubt see and hear more through at least Seven TV, The Advertiser and RFDS's own communication initiatives. PICTURED: CEO Tony Vaughan being interviewed during the official ceremony. MEANWHILE, IN BBQ NEWS..... Yet another big thank you to everyone who supported our endeavours at Woolworths Viscount Slim yesterday (Saturday 7). You were so fantastic we will be back this Saturday, but more about that later. (Although we have already instructed the chooks to start laying more eggs to complement the bacon.) We are so proud of the Whyalla community for your ongoing support helping us to do our bit helping keep the Flying Doctor flying with its mantle of safety. 03.01.2022 ALL ROADS LEAD BACK TO WOOLWORTHS VISCOUNT SLIM AVENUE THIS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7! ANOTHER big "thank you" to our customers and donation supporters at Woolies last Saturday helping us to help keep the Flying Doctor flying, while trusting our food was thoroughly enjoyed. Yes, we'll be back this Saturday and expect our "Doctor's Smooth Landing" (bacon & egg sandwich) and "Flight Nurse's Special" (burger pattie, egg & onion) to again be popular. Of course we'll have the good old ..."Pilatus Speedy Flyer" (snag & onion) on stand-by ready for take off. Forecast is for 22 degrees and mostly sunny, just the right weather to grab something tasty from the BBQ, so perhaps we'll seeya there. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! AS WE ALL KNOW, Christmas is fast approaching and our event schedule continues to grow with more BBQs at Woolies, Mitre 10, Stratco and private functions, so "watch this space." 03.01.2022 SAUSAGE SIZZLES AT MITRE 10, SATURDAY & SUNDAY It will be another perfect Sausage Sizzle weekend (Oct 24 & 25) at Mitre 10, McDouall Stuart Ave, so to all DIYers and our regular supporters, we should have the first cook-up on Saturday ready by 9.30-ish and on Sunday by 10.30-ish. We'll be doing our best to ensure plenty of supplies to keep going right up till lunchtime, so you know where to head for one of our snags, and of course plenty of onions. Perhaps we'll seeya there!... AND IN STATE BREAKING NEWS....... A fantastic result of the ongoing corporate partnership between RFDS Central Operations (covering SA and the NT) with the announcement today of a further $300,000 three-year sponsorship of a PC-12 "flying intensive care unit" by Senex Energy. This takes Senex's nine-year support to around $1million. Such a commitment gives all volunteer groups that extra reason to smile and an extra boost to do everything they can to support the vital task of fundraising to help keep the Flying Doctor flying.
