11.01.2022 This video was created by Luke Russ. It represents a typical period in the late dry season month of October. Multiple fires ignitied by lighting strikes are burning across large areas of the Wilinggin Native Title Area. The rangers work hard to extinguish or contain these fires each year.

01.01.2022 An important part of our work as land managers is preserving our amazing and unique biodiversity. So it is amazing when we see that our efforts not in vain. Working on Wilinggin country with our Australian Wildlife Conservancy and Kimberley Land Council partners we found a nest of a mating pair of Red Goshawks (Erythrotriorchis radiates), which are one of the rarest species of raptors (birds of prey) in Australia. This nest is reported to have been in the same tree for at least 30 years, and no doubt borne witness to the hatching of many new Red Goshawk chicks, thus showing the importance of maintaining this habitat.

01.01.2022 This week Wananami School of Kupungarri community held NAIDOC celebrations. The Wunggurr Rangers supported by both WAC and Kimberley Land Council conducted a smoke ceremony and the kids of Wananami presented us all with traditional dances under the watchful eyes of the elders and community leaders Deborah Donations, Chloe and Heather Nulgit, Matt Martin, and Phillip "Cracker" Duckhole among others. It was great to see the new generation dance with such enthusiasm and they will not doubt be teaching their kids the same dances in years to come.

01.01.2022 BACHSTEN CREEK BUSH CAMP AND MUNJA TRACK CLOSURE 2020 SEASON The Wilinggin Aboriginal Corporation, which is the Corporation representing the Native Title Interest of the Ngarinyin people, has recently acquired the Bachsten Creek Bush Camp, which sits astride the Munja Track in the heart of the Wilinggin Country and our Indigenous Protected Area. This acquisition of Bachsten Camp has been a long term goal of the Ngarinyin people as a way of taking responsibility for all of ...the Wilinggin Indigenous Protected Area. Wilinggin would like to thank the WA State Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, the Commonwealths Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation and Ric and Ann Jane and family for the significant effort put into successfully making this happen. The Ngarinyin people have decided to undertake the development of a Management Plan for the Munja Track and area which is expected to take up to 12 months during which time the Munja Track and access to the IPA, specifically Bachsten Camp and Walcott Inlet, will be closed to all visitors and tourist until further notice. Wilinggin Aboriginal Corporation apologises for any inconvenience that this decision has caused for people planning to visit the North Kimberley and the Gibb River Road during this coming season. The Ngarinyin people recognise that the opportunity to travel and visit the Munja Track and Walcott Inlet is a very popular tourism destination for people visiting the North Kimberley and the Gibb River Road, however, the Ngarinyin are committed to the long term protection and sustainability of their Indigenous Protected Area and have committed to the process of developing an appropriate Management Plan for the Munja Track Area that will allow for future tourism access in a managed and sustainable manner. If you have specific queries relating to Bachsten Camp please email [email protected] If you would like to know more about Wilinggin Aboriginal Corporation please visit www.wilinggin.com.au See more
