24.01.2022 How good it was today at QSAC to witness these two club members participating in the new (for QA) Race Running event. Big pb to Amy Tobin and awesome effort from Jackson.

21.01.2022 An interesting article about GCV Club member Genevieve Gregson in today's Courier Mail.

20.01.2022 Congratulations to Genevieve and Ryan Gregson who contested the Australian 3000m Championships in Melbourne last night. Gen added another Australian title to her name (to go with the 3000m steeplechase title she collected in Sydney almost a fortight ago. Ryan finished third in the Open Men's race. To give more of an idea of the quality of their runs, it is worthwhile pointing out that Gen's time of 8:51.24 took more than half a minute from the Club's 3000m record of 9:26.90, ...set by Melissa Rollison back in 2004, Ryan's time of 7:52.81 clipped almost 7 seconds from Michael Shelley's 2007 record of 7:59.59. [Melissa Rollison (married name Hauschildt) wemt on to become an Australian professional triathlete, becoming a 3-time World Champion, winning Gold atthe 2011 and 2013 Ironman 70.3 World Championship, as well as the 2013 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships. Michael Shelley is well known for having won gold in the marathon at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland, as well as the 2018 Commonwealth Games here on the Gold Coast.]

18.01.2022 There are still some events for the Qld All Schools yet to be held. Looking forward to the hammer and pole vault events to be held on 7th November (plus a few events that had to be postponed due to Sunday afternoon's thunderstorm).

18.01.2022 Some further info regarding Torrie Lewis's performances at the Australian T&F Championships (courtesy of her coach Gerard Keating). Gerard mentions Torrie's time in reation to the World Junior Qualifying standard. Torrie is only 16 years of age, and the World Juniors are an U20 Championship. Torrie was not aiming to be selected for the World Juniors - she would have had to compete in the U20 age group to do so. Torrie's winning the 100m gold in the under 17 100 in 11.80 into a minus 2.3 head wind was a World Junior Qualifying time. She had already registered 4 others. Torrie's 23.38 in taking the U17 200 gold medal was a meet record and was the 5th time she had run better than the World Junior qualifying standard.

14.01.2022 I inadvertently put the following post up on my personal Facebook page yesterday, and then encountered some home computer problems today (which are almost entirely solved)... Well, the National Track and Field Championship wrapped up on Monday after 8 days of competition. While I haven’t yet reported on the last two days of competition I think it most important to refer to a remarkable outcome which happened on Sunday afternoon. Athletics Australia announced the names of 15 a...thletes who, following their results at the Nationals, would join another 5 who had already been preselected for the Tokyo Olympics. Of those 15 athletes announced on Sunday, three (that’s 20%!) are members of Gold Coast Victory Athletics Club. Earning that illustrious title of ‘Olympian’ are Liz Clay (100m hurdles), Riley Day (200m) and Genevieve Gregson (3000m steeplechase). For Genevieve this will be her third Olympics. Liz and Riley are debutants. Pictured wearing their Olympic polo shirts are (left to right) Liz, Genevieve and Riley. Well-deserved congratulations to the GCV Olympians, & to your coaches and support crew.

10.01.2022 I have updated all the Club records. They can be seen on the Gold Coast Victory website - www.gold coast victory.com.au. Click on the ‘RECORDS’ tab.

09.01.2022 Congratulations to all those GCV members who took part in the Queensland All Schools Cross Country Championships yesterday at Limestone Park in Ipswich. I have searched through the results, and have tried to spot as many GCV athletes as I could, but it is a little difficult when schools rather than Clubs are listed. So apologies to anyone I may have missed - and please advise me if you have been inadvertenly overlooked: 11 yr girls 3000m Ella Cosgrave 6th (of 42) 12:54 14 boy...s 4000m Tyler Dogan 7th (of 34) 14:17 14 boys 4000m Cru Scott 10th (of 34) 14:29 14 girls 4000m Polly Sowery 13th (of 49) 16:10 14 girls 4000m Lyla Williams 38th (of 49) 18:16 16 girls 4000m Molly Sewell 2nd (of 27) 14:15 17 girls 4000m Starr Scott 4th (of 24) 15:27 17 girls 4000m Maddison Gross 20th (of 24) 17:46 17 boys 6000m Brock Waugh 6th (of 18) 20:46 18/19 girls 6000m Gabriella Hill 2nd (of 11) 24:05 Congratulations to all who took part, and a special mention to the two silver medallists Molly Sewell (16 girls) and Gabriella Hill (18/19 girls)

05.01.2022 In this pandemic year the number of GCV teams competing at the Qld Relay Championships on Saturday 28th November was markedly down on previous years. However, those athletes who did compete performed admirably. We had seven teams in total competing. U16 girls 4x100m - gold - 48.02 (New Club 15 & under Record) (Dior Scholz, Torrie Lewis, Hannah Collins, Amali Butcher) U16 boys 3 x long jump - gold - 17.42m. ... (Zane Eldridge, Hongkai Zhang, Harrison Adams) U18 girls 3 x shot put - silver - 33.75m (New Club 17 & under record). (Jessica McKie, Lara Roberts, Ai Suzuki) U16 girls 3 x 1000m - silver - 9:28.84 (New Club 15 & under Record) (Polly Sowery, Lyla Williams, Molly Sewell) U16 girls 3 x shot put - bronze - 31.95m (New Club 15 & under Record). (Jessica McKie, Ai Suzuki, Charlie Douglass) U16 girls 3 x long jump - 5th - 13.36m. (Hannah Collins, Dior Scholz, Charlie Douglass) U16 boys 4 x 100m - 5th - 47.48. (Zane Eldridge, Hongkai Zhang, Zac Faass-Williams, Asher Morrell). Some photos attached from the weekend. Ryan Gregson Open 1500m final 4th 3:37.84 Tyra Eldridge U18 400m hurdles Heat 1, 4th 70.66 Brock Waugh U18 800m heat 1, 6th 1:57.17 Starr Scott U18 800m heat 2, 5th 2:17.49 Marie Celia Warnecke U17 800m heat 1, 1st 2:16.27 GCV athletes’ results for Monday 29th April: One heat and eight finals were contested on the day, bookended by two gold medals. First event of the day was the U20 women’s hammer, which was won by Lara Roberts, who threw 53.97m with the 4kg implement. GCV ‘s second competitor on the day - Stephanie Sprague in the U20 pole vault- did not have so happy a competition, failing to clear a height. In the U18 400m hurdles final Tyra Eldridge place 5th in a time of 68.11. Lucas Thorn went one place better (4th) in the U18 javelin final, with a throw of 56.63m. Hannah Collins contested the U17 triple jump final, with a total of 14 competitors. Hannah’s best jump of 11.05m placed her in 9th position, just one spot outside the top 8. Marie Celia Warnecke ran a great race in the U17 800m final, collecting a silver medal with her run of 2:11.65. Molly Sewell also ran brilliantly to win a silver medal in the U17 3000m event. Her time of 9:45.26 was right on the Meet record pace, but the winner, Any Bunnage of Victoria, ran an outstanding race to shatter the old meet record with a 9:26.70 effort. Brock Waugh was in the first section of the U18 3000m timed finals. He crossed the line in 4th in his section. However the second section had the benefit of knowing what time they had to beat, & ran accordingly. When the combined results of the 27 competitors from both sections were collated Brock finished 12th overall. The very last individual event of the day was well worth waiting for. Torrie Lewis had run brilliantly in her heat of the U17 200m earlier in the day to record the fastest heat time of 24.17 (-0.3). Torrie went even faster in the final, unleashing a brilliant 23.38 second run, with a legal tail wind of 1.9m/sec. Picturede below is the photofinish print of Torrie's 200, Congratulations to all athletes, and to your coaches on your excellent efforts!

01.01.2022 On Sunday last, we saw quite a few GCV competitors on the track and in the field. I've found some photos of Emily Olders (1500m), Georgia Kapernick, Jasmine Meuli and Tyra Kapernick (sprint hurdles), and Jessica McKie (shot put and javelin)

01.01.2022 The really big news for GCV fans from Day One of the Qld All Schools Championships Girls was the performance of new Club member Torrie Lewis in the U16 girls 100m and 200m. In the 100m Torrie ran a sizzling 11.57s (with legal following breeze of 1.9m/s) to establish a new Qld U16 record (and equalling the Qld U18 record in the process). She backed that stellar performance up later in the day in the 200m with another Qld U16 record in the 200m - 23.51s (wind: +1.7). Enjoy the photos of Torrie in action.
