21.01.2022 HAPPY VALENTINES DAY everyone! Ian surprised me with a bouquet this morning. How sweet - he picked a bunch of cow pea shoots! Youve gotta know the history behind it a bit...... We just planted 150ac for cattle forage after the beautiful rain weve had so far this year. The seeds have germinated and these are the baby plants. So he thought he had an exciting, ready made bunch for Valentines Day. Was certainly surprised and delighted. Hes a keeper!

10.01.2022 WEVE BEEN BUSY DOWN ON THE FARM! Harvest time is sweet, especially when you get rain at the right time. Thanks to the lovely falls we had earlier in the year, our cowpea and pasture has flourished. Enough so that we have been able to harvest 270 tonnes for silage. This is a good insurance policy to get us through a cold winter and, God forbid, the next drought! Heres the machine harvesting the pasture, and TRYING to load it into the truck! Would be pretty tricky harvesting and trying to position the pointy thingy into the truck, I guess!

05.01.2022 Looks like weve made it! The rain has finally come, and not a moment too soon. We only really thought we could survive until March, being at the very end of our resources by then. This was the very worst drought weve ever experienced, and weve been through a few. Lots of rebuilding to do from here on in, but at least the work load will reduce for Ian. It was hard for him to stay on top of things. Weve had 215mm for the year so far and are very grateful. Dams are full..., pastures coming to life, cattle are much happier and should now stop breaking out onto the road verges, and theres a spring in our own steps. Very blessed. Praying we get plenty of consistent follow up falls. The video is of the gully in two of our paddocks - roaring to life after being a sad, dejected dry creek bed for far too long.

04.01.2022 MUSTERING JOYLANDS Getting the mob in from start to finish to show you how we do it. Love it when then the cattle are fat and shiny, bursting with green grass in their bellies. I dont ride a bike, so I muster in the ute - but it still works a treat, especially when the cattle are quiet. Quiet cattle = tender meat. These are our fatteners; not long before theyre ready to go.
