24.01.2022 CHANGE OF TIME: BUDGET FORUM LIVE NOW AT 12.30pm. If you want to find out more about what the Federal Budget means for Fisher join me **tomorrow** on Facebook Live right here at the new time of **12.30pm**. I will be answering all of the questions that you leave in the comments. In the meantime, did you know that the 2020 Federal Budget includes funding from the Morrison Government for 12,000 additional university places for Australian students at institutions like USC? We are also providing an additional $1 billion for research at Australian unis. This is on top of funding for 100,000 additional apprenticeships and 340,000 extra training course places.

24.01.2022 The open warfare in the Federal Labor party that has broken out this week has highlighted again one inescapable fact - the Labor Party have lost faith with workers in this country. Labor don’t care about them any more. As I told the House today, there’s only one side of politics that stands up for workers and what they care about and that’s the Liberal National Coalition.

23.01.2022 With so much media attention on the ADF this weekend and in particular around the IGADF Report into the alleged unlawful killings in Afghanistan, I wanted to introduce you to Mr William McDonald of Caloundra, who is one of our few remaining WWII Veterans and member of our GREATEST GENERATION. I had the privilege of issuing William with his WWII Veteran medallion yesterday. William enlisted into the Royal Australian Navy Reserve as a Stoker on 15 October 1943, at the age of 1...7. William was posted to the newly commissioned frigate, HMAS Diamantina, in 1945 where he saw active sea service. The primary role of the Diamantina was to hunt Japanese submarines in the New Guinea Islands Region and South Pacific. Whilst sailing off the coast of Taiof Island on 18 July 1945, the Diamantina was instructed to take up a firing position off the east coast of Taiof Island for a second bombardment of Japanese batteries located on Sohana Island. A few minutes after the scheduled firing was completed, one Japanese heavy gun opened fire and a few shots fell 400 yards astern. The official surrender of the Ocean Island Occupation Force was signed on the quarterdeck of the Diamantina on 30 September 1945. William has good memories of his time spent onboard HMAS Diamantina. William fondly recalls his Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander Maurice G Rose (RANVR), playing card games with the ship’s sailors, wearing only thongs and shorts. William discharged from the Royal Australian Navy Reserve in 25 October 1946. William, you like over one million other men and women over the last 120 years have served our country in uniform with great distinction and we thank you for your service. #LestWeForget. See more

20.01.2022 The Morrison Government has just announced a new investment of $18 million to further protect Australia's iconic koalas. This will include further funding for research into koala health and medical support as well as the restoration of key habitats. This is in addition to the $50 million in funding - including $1 million for Australia Zoo - delivered by this Government last year for koalas impacted by the bushfires.

19.01.2022 It was great to join many of the Coast’s business and government leaders this week for a Forum to talk about our region’s economic recovery. What would you like to see in the months and years to come to build the future Sunshine Coast we want?

17.01.2022 Builders and subbies across the country will be doing a jig today with the announcement of the extension of the Morrison Government’s HomeBuilder scheme for another three months. For more information about this program which has had such a dramatic positive impact on our local construction industry visit https://treasury.gov.au/coronavirus/homebuilder

17.01.2022 Was great to be the first to fly the new Australian flag I dropped off at Beerwah Golf Club on a glorious day recently alongside Tracy - everyone knows Tracy! - and to see their newly-installed accessible lift for people living with disability. In these difficult times there are still great things happening all over the Coast and I’d encourage everyone who lives in our region now more than ever to get out there and #supportsunshinecoast

16.01.2022 Today the Parliamentary Friends of Surf Life Saving met to celebrate the start of Summer and surf safety. I took the opportunity to tell Parliament a little more about Alexandra Headland SLSC and some of the terrific people who patrol with me on the beach there... #Surflifesaving #volunteers

16.01.2022 The side of politics most people don’t see. This weekend I’m prepping for a week of hearings in the Domestic and Family Violence Inquiry for the House of Representatives Social Policy and Legal Affairs Committee that I Chair. Just like being back at the Bar.

15.01.2022 Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Unfortunately domestic violence is endemic in Australia. Try as we might, so far governments of all persuasions, of all jurisdictions, don't seem to be putting a dint in it and that is very disturbing. I am Chair of the Parliamentary Inquiry going on right now into Domestic, Family and Sexual violence. Our recommendations will be informing the Federal Government’s next plan for dealing with this scourge.... We have that heard virtually all domestic and family violence services have experienced about a 60 per cent increase since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and unfortunately I don't think we've seen the extent of it yet. It's possible, indeed likely, that those figures will increase even more. The committee will be tabling its final report in March. We are looking at many issues including what to do about coercive control and technology facilitated abuse, but ultimately domestic and family violence comes down to a lack of respect. If you respect your partner, then it's very difficult to be committing acts of domestic violence against them. Respect is what we need much more of.

14.01.2022 We need a range of quality journalism on the Sunshine Coast today more than ever, so I am very pleased to see a new free Coast focused news website launching today with the assistance of the Federal Government. Sunshine Coast news is brought to you by the publishers of My Weekly Preview and you can find out more about it at the link below! Best of luck to the team at Sunshine Coast News with the new venture! https://www.sunshinecoastnews.com.au//media-website-launc/

14.01.2022 Alongside the Morrison Government's $98 billion in investment in creating jobs and economic growth, this Budget also includes record investments in health care and education. This includes a record $21.5 billion for schools and $19.8 billion for universities, as well as an unprecedented $93.8 billion for healthcare, which represents a 43% increase since the Coalition came into Government. NDIS funding is also increasing by $3.9 billion in this Budget while aged care investment is increasing by $1.6 billion to fund an additional 23,000 home care packages.

13.01.2022 On the Sunshine Coast we are welcoming a growing, vibrant and successful community of new migrants from an ever broader and more diverse range of countries and cultures. Today I took the time to speak to the House about these new migrants and the opportunities I have recently had to engage with them. I have heard a lot about the challenges new migrants face in our region and their terrific ambitions for the future. Thank you to Stella at the Caloundra Community Centre and to Vas and Arvind for introducing me to so many new Sunshine Coast locals in recent weeks.

13.01.2022 You don’t get much time to make lunch down here in Canberra but luckily there’s a new Mooloolaba based business in Fisher to help! The Hatted Chef have just opened making chef-prepared, restaurant quality meals in packets - you can make a quick lunch and #supportsunshinecoast at the same time!. Unfortunately I couldn’t attend the launch as I was stuck here in Canberra but I got hold of some to have a try and I have to say I was very impressed. Great stuff Hatted Chef and all the best for the future. #supportsunshinecoast #shoplocal

12.01.2022 He aims, he shoots .... he misses. Spent an inspirational morning playing wheel chair bastketball and rugby with the guys and girls of the #SuncoastSpinners. It’s been over 12 months since I last joined them and I can honestly say it is one of the best times I’ve had as an MP. I was proud to be able to assist them with the supply of some wheel chairs to make these sports accessible for more people. Thanks for making me feel so welcome!!!

11.01.2022 I am already onto my fourth career and for most of us that is becoming the new normal. There’s a fantastic new website from the Morrison Government www.yourcareer.gov.au with helpful interactive tools to help you find a new career that could be right for you, what training or study you might need to get started in it and help with writing CVs and making applications. This is alongside the more than $2 billion in funding the Government delivered in last week’s Federal Budget for 340,000 new training places. I explain more, and tell a little of my own career story in this video, so check it out!

07.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day. Almost half of Australians will suffer with poor mental health at some point in their lives yet only around half of them will seek help. The Government invests billions to make sure that help is available if you need it, so today I am encouraging everyone who is struggling to cope or concerned about their mental health to reach out to their GP or to a service like Lifeline or Beyond Blue World Mental Health Day

05.01.2022 If you fail to plan you plan to fail. A long but important day today with my staff planning for Fisher in 2021 - a big thank you to Birtinya’s Hello Harry for going the extra mile to keep us fuelled for the conversation! And for those of you who have been following us for a while, have a look at that photo of our first 2017 planning session. Seems like just yesterday and forever ago! #supportsunshinecoast

04.01.2022 Unfortunately this year we cannot hold Hear and Say's terrific fundraising Trivia night, so I am doing Loud Shirt Day - Australia to raise funds for their important work helping people suffering from hearing loss. If you can, please make a donation at https://events.hearandsay.com.au/my-fundra//andrew-wallace as I am still a long way from my goal of $1,000! NB: Photo from 2019's Trivial night.

04.01.2022 Today is Remembrance Day and however we can, this morning we pause during this difficult year to remember the sacrifice of our 102,000 fallen service men and women and share their experience with others. Pausing in silent reflection and remembrance at 11am on 11 November, wherever you are, is a tradition which Australians have observed for more than a hundred years. It is more important than ever during this difficult year to join together and remember the things that unite... us as a nation, and the sacrifices that have been made on our behalf. It is particularly important that we uphold this tradition today, not only by wearing red poppies, but also by observing the minute’s silence at 11am. Whether you attend one of the ceremonies taking place around our region or simply stop for a moment at work, I urge everyone on the Sunshine Coast to continue this tradition of remembrance and respect for our fallen defence personnel, now and into the future. If you feel able I would also encourage you to share your personal commemorations on social media today with the hashtag #RemembranceDay, to help show our region’s serving men and women, past and present, that we value their service. We also must not forget that Remembrance Day can be a difficult and emotional time for some of our veterans and their families. If you are a local veteran and you find yourself needing extra support on the day, please reach out to Open Arms, the Veterans & Families Counselling Service on 1800 011 046.

03.01.2022 In this 2020 Federal Budget the Morrison Government is allowing small and medium sized Australian businesses to write off the full value of any eligible asset, whatever it costs, in the same year in which it is installed or first used. This is a big incentive to encourage businesses to invest right now in new equipment, software and tools that are going to increase productivity, allow new products and services to be offered and ultimately enable more jobs to be created. Fantastic local businesses like Fisher's My Teddy have already used smaller scale instant asset write offs which this Coalition Government introduced to buy new equipment and grow their businesses. I am excited to see what our local business community can do with this big incentive to go even further.

02.01.2022 The Morrison Government remains firmly committed to keeping Australians safe while protecting our nation’s security interests in a rapidly changing global environment. This year’s 2020-21 Defence Budget sees sustained strong investment in Australia’s national security, delivering on our commitment to grow the Defence budget to 2% of GDP in the 2020-21 financial year. We’re investing in:... $270 billion over the next 10 years to upgrade the capability and potency of #YourADF $1.4 billion over the next decade to enhance cyber security capabilities and assistance provided to Australians, part of a $15 billion investment in cyber and information warfare $124.3 million over 10 years to support the Pacific Step-Up through increased investment in security infrastructure in the region A $1 billion investment package to boost Australia’s defence industry and support 4,000 Australian jobs Australia’s high-tech industry manufacturing capacity, and 70,000 jobs across our nation. I am proud to be part of a Government that unashamedly backs Australian industry and Australian workers. This long-term funding certainty will allow more Australian businesses in the defence supply chain to create more long-term and high-tech Australian jobs. #YourADF is playing its part in the national #COVID19 recovery, keeping Australians in jobs while keeping Australia safe.
