22.01.2022 Not my usual thing, but sometimes things need to be said. We can get people who are very demanding, but this is my business and I try the best I can. Unfortunately, over the past two weeks, someone took it to a new level. After much messaging, it was going well, but one day, she told me off for not answering her messages. I had spent the day at the children's hospital with my daughter, while they ran some tests on her. Today, I opened up my messages to a series of questions ...from her, to which I cannot reply, because she has now blocked me. In that 20 minute window, from first message to being blocked, I was at my daughter's birthday party. She didn't ask how my daughter was, she didn't ask if I was available. I had no opportunity to say I would get back to her later, just abuse for not being at work whenever she wanted. As some of you are aware, my family has been through a lot lately and this rare opportunity to celebrate something good, was tainted by one selfish person. See more

21.01.2022 Isolation Blog. Day 22. A few days ago, I made a maze out of cardboard boxes for my daughter, to keep her entertained during isolation. She loves her new playground. To keep it interesting, I hide Teddy and tell her she went exploring and got lost in the tunnels and she need to find her. On Sunday, it will be an Easter Egg hunt. I have plans to add a crossover, to change the route to each play area. I don't plan on getting the room back until social distancing is over.

19.01.2022 A run through of one of our boxes of memorabilia. This one is mostly music related, but some unusual TV related ones as well. If you want a better look or story behind an item, let me know. After an evening of shooting videos, but despite having gone midnight and requiring prep, camera and lighting reset, I decided to do one more. I may sound a little tired.

18.01.2022 Playgrounds are now closed, which makes my daughter sad. I have a spare room and a lot of boxes, so today, I built a box maze. 15 metres of tunnels and 2 play areas, accessed by different routes in the maze. To get to the other play area, you have to go back into the maze.

10.01.2022 Today marks 8 years since the world lost Gerry Anderson. For some reason, I was already having a very Gerry Anderson week, firstly with our stock of Alan, Gordon and John Tracy figures arriving on Thursday, completing my personal collection of all five and wearing my new Space 1999 t-shirt to the family Christmas gathering (Covid compliant) on Friday. Today, my first day to myself since March (I've been really busy), I finally got around to cataloguing my DVD collection. It's got to the stage where I've been buying discs I already have. I have so many Gerry Anderson Productions, it now has a dedicated shelf. Additionally, Thunderbirds, Space 1999, Stingray, etc figures take up half of my display cabinets in my home. I'm still waiting for Jeff Tracy to adopt me. #CheersGerryAnderson

08.01.2022 Melbourne Toy Fair 2020 I went. I always go. Not as grand as it used to be, but what's not to love about a shed full of toys on display, that you can't leave with on the day? Each year is slightly smaller than the last. Some stands were scaled back, some were missing entirely. Caterpillar, who make some very nice scaled models. forwent a stand and had the commercial 1:1 scale tractor, with the 2 metre wheels (approx $400,000) there instead. The most popular item this year, wa...s not a toy, but hand sanitiser. I have not seen so many bottles in use, outside of a hospital. This leads to the biggest question of the Fair, with so much made in China, what stock are we getting this year? The answer varied from 'no problem, we order out of the US' (but isn't your stuff still made in China?), through to, 'we have one container on the water, but that's it'. Mostly, is was, 'we just don't know'. Stock is sourced from other Asian countries that has manufacturing, but it's only a matter of time before some of them are shut down as well. As for freebies, I scored a grand total of three. A 1:64 model car (but it was in a Toy Fair Exclusive box, so yay, I guess), a cap so ugly, it can't be worn on public and a small drone (static model). Why? I don't know. See more

01.01.2022 Platos Not Quite Right Movie Reviews looks at Star Wars 9. (No spoilers) After a 42 year wait, its finally over. Again. First, we had Star Wars, then it became A New Hope, and after adding new scenes and six hours of preceding fluff, it became Star Wars 4. Some would become classics, others would be locked in the attic and never spoken of again (the Ill defriend you if you say you like them 1, 2 & 3). Spin-offs, cartoon series, ad infinitum. What should you expect from ...this new one? -Kylo Renn takes a gap year to train raptors on Isla Nublar. -The First Order start by attacking every planet in the Universe, except Skaro. Theyre not that stupid. -New character -Foot Deut. -The Rebels set up base on Hobbiton. -Rey wants Lukes lightsabre, but Leia had already sold it on ebay to a collector. -The First Order is revealed to be a group of toy manufacturers, hellbent on world domination. -To wit, every character and prop, no matter how insignificant, will be made into merchandise. -Baby Yoda is just plain nasty. Additional: As a toy retailer, theres a lot to remember. On order sheets, each movie is SW:ANH, TPM, ROTJ, TFA, etc. Not only is each figure slightly different for each one, there are variations within each movie, battle-damaged, or scene specific, as examples. The number of different Stormtroopers alone is staggering. Add to that, the number of different versions of each of them (Pop Vinyl, 1:6, 1:4, play figures, premium format, etc). Im meant to be fairly smart, only to now realise Im using most of it, trying to keep up with all this. See more
